Nigerian Students shut down Ekiti State University
The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) on Monday led students of the Ekiti State University to shut down the institution. The students locked the school gate, restraining university staff and students from entering the campus. The students accused the school management of undermining equity, fairness, and justice in the university.
NANS chairman in Ekiti State, Olanrewaju Olamide, protested that the school management, without consultation, unilaterally imposed additional N29,000 fees paid by graduating students at the university. The students also demanded the university authorities to conduct physical elections into the students’ union, not electronic voting as planned.
The students further demanded provision of adequate security for students residing off campus, and a better approach from the management in handling students related issues.
The university management was said to be holding an emergency meeting.
