Senate, Reps succumb to Buhari, endorse direct, indirect or consensus primaries
The Senate and the House of Representatives on Wednesday succumbed to President Muhammadu Buhari on the review of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Both chambers of the Nigerian National Assembly, however, has slight difference in their endorsements.
The Senate approved direct, indirect and consensus primaries for nomination of candidates for elections by parties, the House of Representatives endorsed direct and indirect processes but excluded consensus.
The two chambers are expected to harmonize the bill before returning it to the President for assent.
Before returning the Bill, President Buhari had assured that he will sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill after the National Assembly had made the necessary adjustments.
