4 African countries where Igbo ethnic group can be found
1. Equatorial Guinea
The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, a small island nation located in the central part of the African continent and flanked by Cameroon and Gabon, is one of the African tribe where Igbo ethnic group can be found. Igbo tribe is reportedly one of the third largest tribes in Equatorial Guinea. Concentrated mainly in Bioko region of the country, Igbo tribe there are said to have originated from Arochukwu in Abia State, south-east Nigeria.
2. Nigeria
The Africa’s most populous country is home to the largest population of Igbo ethnic group. Their traditional homeland straddles the Niger River in the south-east and is one of the most densely populated areas of the African continent. In Nigeria, they are majorly found in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
3. Cameroon
A country located in the west-central part of Africa, the Republic of Cameroon is also one of the African nations where Igbo ethnic group can be found. Igbo tribe comprises of about seven percent of the country’s population, and their language is also one of the recognised regional languages in Cameroon.
4. Gabon
Gabon is a nation located on the west coast of the Central Africa and bordered by Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Igbo ethnic group can also be found in this French-speaking nation.
