Enugu 2023: Commissioner resigns, joins governorship race
The Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga, on Wednesday resigned from the State Executive Council in compliance with the amended Electoral Act, to join the governorship race.
The commissioner, disclosing his resignation in a farewell remark to the staff of the ministry, explained that he resigned to comply with the newly amended 2022 Electoral Act to enable him contest for the 2023 Enugu State governorship election.
Edeoga thanked Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for giving him the opportunity to serve in his cabinet, including the staff of the ministry for their support and cooperation while he worked with them.
The commissioner is from Isi-Uzo Council Area, Enugu East Senatorial district, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned the governorship ticket for the 2023 election.
Edeoga will be sweating it out with the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, from Enugu West, for the PDP governorship ticket ion the state.
