PDP insists on only elected delegates voting at primaries, national convention to elect flag bearers
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ordered state structures to use only election delegates for voting at the party’s primaries and National Convention for election of candidates for the 2023 general elections. PDP National Organizing Secretary, Umar M. Bature, in a statement on Saturday indicated that “by virtue of Section 84(8) of the Electoral Act, 2022, delegates to vote at the Indirect Primaries and National Convention of political parties to elect candidates for elections shall be those democratically elected for that purpose only.”
He maintained that those qualified and eligible to vote as delegates in the forthcoming Primaries and National Convention of the PDP are the three (3) AD-HOC Delegates per ward, elected at the Ward Congresses and one (1) National Delegate per Local Government, elected at the Local Government Area Congresses.
The NWC, therefore, informed Party members that the State Houses of Assembly Primaries to elect State House of Assembly candidates, earlier scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2022 will now hold on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 8.00am to 12 noon; while the House of Representatives Primaries to elect our House of Representatives candidates will also hold on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 2:00 pm.
All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders and teeming members of our Party should please take note.
