Ekweremadu refutes defection to Labour Party
The former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, on Saturday refuted reports that he has defected to the Labour Party in the build up to the 2023 general elections.
The Media Assistant to Senator Ekweremadu, representing Enugu West in the National Assembly, Uche Anichukwu, in a statement on Saturday, declared: “Our attention has been drawn to an online misinformation to the effect that former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has joined the Labour Party.
“This is false and should be disregarded.”
Ekweremadu, a governorship aspirant ion Enugu State, had withdrawn from the PDP primary last Thursday over certain political intrigues in the state party. The State PDP in Enugu was emphatic of power rotation in the state and the zoning of the 2023 governorship ticket to Enugu East.
Meanwhile, Ekweremadu has not formally resigned from the PDP and could be on target for the vice-presidential ticket in the party
