Police arrest 68-year-old, five other cultists in Edo
The Edo State Police Command on Monday revealed the arrest of a 68-year-old man and five other cultists in the state.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Jennifer Iwegbu, in a statement on Monday, disclosed the arrest, identifying the cultists as Andrew Owhoyavwosa, Joseph Meshak, Osazee Solomon, Godswill Obasohan, Charles Odiase, Okoh Peter.
The police arrested the suspects on Saturday in Ekowe community at Ekiadolor.
DPPRO Iwegbu narrated that on sighting the police, the suspects flee from the venue of their unlawful assembly; but were pursued and arrested by the police.
The police on the arrest of Okoh Peter, and five others, recovered weapons, which include two locally made single barrel guns, one locally cut to size single barrel gun, and 30 live cartridges: a first aid box, kola nuts, eggs, cowries, one dead chicken, seven handsets and N30,000.
The DPPRO emphasized that the arrest is to check the rise of cultism in Edo State and unnecessary killings in the state.
The police had earlier on Friday, arrested seven cult members, belonging to the Eiye and Aiye confraternities.
