Sultan declares non-Muslim corps members free from sharia
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, has told youth corps member serving in the state that Sharia is not binding on non-Muslims, and everybody will have freedom to practice their faith.
He gave the assurance on Thursday in his palace when the NYSC management team in the state led by the state coordinator and some selected corps members paid him a courtesy visit.
The spiritual head of Muslims Nigeria also assured them that their safety is guaranteed despite some security challenges facing the country.
“In Sokoto, Sharia law is only binding on Muslims,” he said. “Nobody will force you to wear Hijab or force you to obey Islamic laws if you are not a Muslim.”
He also urged them to impact the lives of the students, and make the children better.
“If you have a problem at the place of your primary assignment or where you are posted to, contact the district head over there; they are your guardians in the community,’’ he noted.
The NYSC State coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba, praised the current batches B, stream II of corps members for their discipline.
