Adamu Garba, a popular Nigerian lawmaker, a former presidential aspirant under the platform of the Youth Progressive Party (YPP), and a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), recently reacted to the extension of the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

You may have read that the National Executive Council of the academic union (ASUU) held a heated debate during a meeting yesterday, after which it was announced on Monday that the six-month-old strike has been extended. The union cited the non-compliance on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria to satisfactorily meet all its pending demands.

In reaction to this announcement, Senator Adamu, in a terse statement on his official Twitter timeline, claimed that the union cared less about the future of students; instead, they were after their personal interests.

He advised students in various Nigerian universities to learn and develop their skills even as the academic union continues to press its demands. Sen. Adamu said, “Dear Students, don’t wait for ASUU, find something to do to build yourselves and make your family and country proud.”

Furthermore, he urged other universities that disagree with the decision made by ASUU to kindly withdraw their membership.
