Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ogun Command, on Monday, reiterated its commitment to sensitising drivers and others road users across the state.
FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Ahmed Umar, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, said this would help stem possible road crashes in Ogun.
Umar said that the continuous sensitisation of drivers and motorists during the ember months was necessary across the state.
He added that there was likely to be an increase in road crashes due to increase in human and vehicular movements during the period.
The sector commander said that the period called for more caution, as most drivers were always in a hurry to embark on more trips so as to make more money toward the end of the year.
“It is on this basis that we are appealing to drivers to desist from excessive speeding and overloading, and refrain from night traveling to curb incessant cases of accidents during the ember months.
“In addition, we urge passengers to reports drivers who refused to obey traffic rules and regulations to the appropriate channel in order to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and property,” he said.
The sector commander also warned drivers against drunk- driving and taking intoxicating substances that could negatively affect their senses of judgment while driving on the highways.
He said that FRSC would be collaborating with all the traffic unions in the various motor parks across the state to ensure that their members adhered strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
This, he said, was targeted at making the highways safer for the motoring public before, during and after the yuletide.
According to the sector commander, safety on the roads is everybody’s business, urging the traffic unions to educate their members on its importance.
