Man dragged to court over fake cough syrup

A middle age man, have been remanded at the Ikoyi prison for allegedly producing fake drugs.
Nwanoro Sylvanus, who resides at No.5, Ekeh Macaulay Street, Iba Lagos suburb, is standing trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on the alleged offence.
Sylvanus pleaded not guilty to the charge. Following an oral application for bail by defence counsel, Mr F.S. Oladele, Justice Ibrahim Buba granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ibrahim, however, ordered the accused to be remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
Mr Shamaki Umar,the prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept; 29, 2015. He said that the accused was arrested at Okokomaiko area in Lagos, for allegedly adulterating the product: COF ‘N’ COLD with Codeine syrup.
Umar said that the accused was engaged in counterfeiting the cough syrup with codeine, and distributing same to the public.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 1 (a), 3, 3 (1) (a) and 18 (a) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act, Cap C34, Laws of the Federation, 2004. The case adjourned January 28, 2016 for trial.
