NYSC reportedly decamp corps member over his viral tweet
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reportedly decamped an Oyo State corps member, identified as Abiola Paul, over a viral tweet he made.
In the tweet, which has since been deleted, Paul called the NYSC a “scam” and said that he would rather be in his village than serve in Nigeria.
The tweet was met with widespread criticism, and the NYSC was quick to act. In a statement, the NYSC said that Paul had been decamped and would be redeployed to his home state.
The statement said: “The attention of the NYSC management has been drawn to a disrespectful tweet by one Abiola Paul, a corps member serving in Oyo State. The tweet, which has since been deleted, was in bad taste and portrays the NYSC in a negative light.
“As a result of this, the corps member has been decamped and will be redeployed to his home state. The NYSC frowns at any act of indiscipline and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against erring corps members.”

Paul has not yet commented on his decampment.
The NYSC is a compulsory one-year program for Nigerian graduates. The program was established in 1973 to promote unity and understanding among Nigerians from different parts of the country.
However, the NYSC has been criticized in recent years for being a waste of time and money. Many graduates have complained about the poor conditions in NYSC camps and the lack of opportunities for learning and development.
The decamping of Abiola Paul is a reminder that the NYSC is serious about discipline. It is also a sign that the NYSC is willing to take action against corps members who make negative comments about the program
