The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State at the State House, Abuja.

This was the first meeting between Wike and Fubara since the mayhem that erupted in Rivers State on Monday over the impeachment of the governor.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that both Wike and Fubara were at the State House for a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

Membership of the Council include governors of the 36 states of the Federation, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police.

The Council met last in 2021.

Rivers State has been in the news for chaos as members of the State House of Assembly plotted the impeachment of the governor. The action was attributed to former Governor Wike who many believed was imposing his godfather status on Governor Fubara, his successor.

The battle was fiercely fought until Governor Fubara appeared to have regained ground and took control of the state structures, firing officials in the state government loyal to Wike, including changing the Speaker of the House of Assembly, suspending the Chief Judge of the State, firing the 23 local government chairmen, among others.

Meanwhile, it cannot be ascertained how far the mayhem in Rivers State has been brought under control, but Wike still maintain a pocket of loyalists in the state House of Assembly  who are capable of causing mix-up and stalemate in the government of Rivers State.
