A truck driver who caused a six-vehicle crash in Arizona last year, resulting in the deaths of five people, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison. The driver, 38-year-old Danny Tiner, was distracted by watching TikTok videos at the time of the crash, which occurred on January 12, 2023, on Interstate 10 in Chandler, Arizona.

While Tiner survived the crash, five others lost their lives at the scene as two cars were crushed between his truck and another semi-truck.

Tiner, who was arrested in June 2023, faced five counts of negligent homicide and pleaded guilty to all charges. On August 19, 2024, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced that Tiner received a 22-and-a-half-year prison sentence. However, he will be credited with 415 days for the time already served in jail. At the time of the accident, Tiner was speeding at over 68 MPH in a 55 MPH construction zone. Officials noted that Tiner admitted to receiving a notification on his tablet just before the crash.
