Olubunmi Kuku appointed as Africa’s Regional Advisor on ACI World Governing Board

In a historic achievement for Nigeria and the African aviation sector, Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has been appointed as the Regional Advisor for Africa on the Airport Council International (ACI) World Governing Board.

Her appointment, ratified on September 20, 2024, during the ACI Africa General Assembly in South Africa, marks a significant milestone for African aviation, positioning her to shape policies that will impact airports across the continent.

Kuku’s role as Regional Advisor places her at the forefront of advocating for Africa’s unique aviation challenges and opportunities within ACI, an organization that oversees 2,100 airports across 169 countries.

With a robust background in infrastructure finance and aviation, Kuku will champion key issues such as infrastructure development, safety regulations, and sustainable practices—critical to enhancing the competitiveness of African airports on a global scale.

Under Kuku’s leadership, FAAN has achieved international recognition, earning two prestigious safety awards at the ACI Africa Conference held in Johannesburg.

The awards celebrated the operational excellence of Nigeria’s Port Harcourt International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, underlining Kuku’s commitment to elevating Nigeria’s aviation standards and her vision for a resilient industry.

“I am deeply honoured to serve as Africa’s Regional Advisor on the ACI World Governing Board,” said Kuku.

Having assumed the role of Managing Director of FAAN in December 2023, Kuku’s rise to the ACI Governing Board further highlights her impressive trajectory.

Prior to her appointment at FAAN, she held leadership positions at top global firms, including Ernst & Young and Deloitte Consulting, and served as a technical advisor at the Federal Ministry of Aviation. Her wide-ranging expertise makes her an influential voice for Africa’s aviation future.
