FG declares October 1st public holiday
The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended his congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister commended the resilience and hard work of Nigerian citizens, acknowledging that their sacrifices for the nation will not be in vain.

Reflecting on the anniversary’s theme, Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to honor the contributions of the country’s past heroes and draw inspiration for the tasks that lie ahead.
He emphasized that achieving the Nigeria of our dreams requires unity and collective effort.
As part of the Independence Day message, the minister urged citizens to remain committed to nation-building and wished everyone a joyous celebration of the country’s 64th year of independence.
