INEC chairman updates on Ondo State Governorship Election in consultative meeting
In a consultative meeting today, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu announced vital updates for the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election, including a 71.6% PVC collection rate and plans for a mock accreditation exercise on November 6.
In a crucial consultative meeting today, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), provided essential updates regarding the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election set for November 16, 2024.
This fourth quarterly meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) focused on preparations and the role of stakeholders in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Professor Yakubu announced a notable collection rate of 71.6% for Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), with over 64,000 cards successfully distributed ahead of the election.
He expressed gratitude to CSOs for their efforts in mobilizing voters and confirmed that detailed statistics on PVC collection will soon be accessible on INEC’s website.
The Chairman emphasized enhancements in the voter accreditation process and the transparency of result uploads to the INEC Result Viewing portal.
He also revealed a mock accreditation exercise scheduled for November 6 across twelve polling units in the state, aimed at refining logistics and operational readiness.
Yakubu highlighted the involvement of the National Peace Committee, led by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, which will facilitate a Peace Accord signing on November 8.

This initiative underscores the importance of maintaining a violence-free election environment.
The Chairman urged CSOs to intensify their advocacy for peaceful conduct during the heightened campaign period and reminded observers to adhere strictly to the Commission’s Code of Conduct.
In addition to the Ondo election, INEC is actively progressing on the timetable for the Anambra State Governorship election, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and proactive planning for upcoming electoral events.
This meeting reaffirms INEC’s dedication to fostering collaboration with civil society and ensuring a credible electoral process as Nigeria approaches its pivotal state elections.
