Tragedy strikes in Lagos as restaurant collapses, multiple casualties feared
A devastating building collapse rocked the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State early Saturday morning, leaving several people feared dead.
The ill-fated structure, which housed a popular local restaurant known as “Equal Right,” crumbled around 8 a.m. on Oremeta Street, catching many occupants unawares.
Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos and panic as the building suddenly gave way, trapping patrons, workers, and residents beneath the debris.

According to accounts from locals, the collapse was abrupt, giving those inside little to no time to escape.
In the immediate aftermath, emergency response teams, supported by courageous local volunteers, launched frantic search and rescue operations.
Using makeshift tools and sheer determination, they worked tirelessly to pull survivors from the wreckage, with some individuals reportedly rescued alive after being trapped for hours.
As of the time of this report, the exact number of casualties remains uncertain.
However, fears are mounting that several lives may have been lost, given the number of people believed to have been inside the building when it collapsed.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area, urging residents to stay clear as rescue efforts continue.
Investigations are expected to commence once the immediate rescue operation concludes, with attention likely to focus on the structural integrity of the building and possible violations of safety regulations.
This tragic incident once again highlights the recurring issue of building collapses in Lagos, raising urgent questions about building standards and enforcement of regulations in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
