Group calls for probe into alleged misuse of federal constituency project in Kaduna schools

The Executive Director of the Eagle Brain Youth Transformative and Development Initiative (EBYTDI), Mr. Daniel Ejembi, has raised alarm over the possible misapplication of a federal constituency project reportedly meant to benefit public schools in Dokan Mai Jama’a, located in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a public statement on Monday, Mr. Ejembi called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Assembly, and the Kaduna State Government to conduct an immediate review of the project’s implementation to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective use of public funds.

“This situation represents a serious concern for the welfare of children in Dokan Mai Jama’a,” Ejembi said. “We call on the Kaduna State Government, the EFCC, and the National Assembly to ensure due process and proper oversight of such initiatives, especially those meant to improve educational infrastructure.”

According to EBYTDI, there are growing indications that the project—reportedly sponsored by a former lawmaker—may not have been executed in line with its intended purpose.

Despite the project’s objectives, schools in the area continue to struggle with dilapidated classrooms, poor sanitation, inadequate learning materials, and lack of access to clean water.

Mr. Ejembi emphasized the need for urgent interventions, including:

• Renovation of classrooms

• Construction of functional toilets

• Installation of perimeter fencing

• Provision of desks, books, and safe water systems

He also stressed the importance of legal and institutional action if wrongdoing is established, noting that such steps are essential to rebuilding public trust and ensuring that education-focused projects truly benefit underserved communities.

“Our organization remains committed to advocating for the educational rights of children and the need for improved learning environments, especially in marginalized areas,” he added.

The call comes amid wider public concern about the accountability of constituency projects across Nigeria, many of which have been criticized for poor implementation or lack of transparency.
