Peter Nwachukwu found guilty in gospel singer Osinachi’s death

Justice has moved a step closer for the late gospel music sensation, Osinachi Nwachukwu, as her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, has been found guilty of culpable homicide linked to her tragic death on April 8, 2022.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sitting at Wuse Zone 2, pronounced Peter Nwachukwu guilty after a detailed trial.

The case, prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), saw the defendant standing trial on a 23-count charge, which included culpable homicide punishable by death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, spousal battery, and other related offences.

The federal government accused Nwachukwu of subjecting his late wife to years of domestic abuse, which allegedly culminated in the physical and emotional trauma leading to her untimely death.

Throughout the trial, the prosecution presented evidence and witness testimonies that painted a grim picture of a sustained pattern of violence and intimidation within the family home.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme, in her ruling, affirmed that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, thus finding Nwachukwu guilty of the charges brought against him.

With the guilty verdict now entered against Peter Nwachukwu, the court is set to deliver its sentencing shortly, a decision that could potentially result in the maximum penalty as prescribed under Nigerian law.

The case has gripped national attention since the death of Osinachi, a beloved gospel artist known for her powerful voice and inspirational songs.

Her death sparked widespread outrage, renewed conversations about domestic violence in Nigeria, and amplified calls for stronger protections for victims of abuse.
