The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it is currently processing applications from 110 associations seeking to be registered as political parties in Nigeria.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Commission, disclosed this on Wednesday, emphasizing that the requests are being diligently reviewed in line with relevant laws and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines.

“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Professor Yakubu stated.

“We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our regulations and guidelines. We have acknowledged all requests received.”

He further clarified that while the majority of applications have been acknowledged, six recently submitted requests would be acknowledged before the end of the week.

Professor Yakubu urged Nigerians, especially those interested in the political party registration process, to consult the Commission’s “Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022,” which are publicly available on INEC’s official website.

To foster transparency, the Commission has also released the full list of these 110 associations.

The list includes their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries.

“The list will be uploaded to our website and social media platforms shortly. Hard copies have also been included in your folders for this meeting,” Yakubu added.
