Tinubu names Louis Odion, Ummasalma Rabiu to top FCCPC positions, awaits Senate approval
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the nominations of veteran journalist Louis Odion and social impact advocate Ummasalma Isiyaku Rabiu for key leadership roles at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced Odion as his choice for Executive Commissioner, Operations, and Rabiu as Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services. The appointments are subject to Senate confirmation in line with the FCCPC Act, 2018.
Louis Odion, from Edo State, brings decades of media and public service experience to the role.
A former Senior Technical Assistant to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Media, Odion previously served as Edo State Commissioner for Information.
His academic portfolio includes two Master’s degrees — in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, and in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.
Ummasalma Isiyaku Rabiu, 35, from Kano State, is the founder of the Usir Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering underprivileged individuals and communities through education, skills acquisition, and humanitarian projects.
With a degree in Business Administration, Rabiu is also a committed grassroots politician known for promoting inclusive governance and increasing youth and women’s participation in politics.
If confirmed, both nominees will join the FCCPC leadership team tasked with safeguarding consumer rights, ensuring fair competition in Nigeria’s markets, and enhancing the Commission’s operational efficiency.
