Senate Minority Leader and lawmaker representing Benue South, Abba Moro, has said former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stands a realistic chance of clinching the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential ticket for the 2027 elections if he decides to return to the party.
Moro made the remark on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he addressed questions on the likelihood of Obi rejoining the PDP.

“But you know, in politics, nothing is certain. I’ve always said that in politics, two plus two is not four. These are matters of interest, and when it comes to existential interests from a community of persons within a geopolitical zone, it is possible,” Moro said.
The Senate Minority Leader revealed that while the PDP has not formally engaged Obi, discussions are already ongoing among individuals within the party. He suggested that Obi’s re-entry into the PDP could reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
“As a party, we are yet to speak to Peter Obi; some people are already talking to him, and he stands a chance of getting the party’s ticket if he returns,” Moro explained.
He further argued that Obi’s popularity and broad support base could position him as a unifying figure within the PDP, strengthening its chances in the next general elections.
“The conversation is predicated on the belief by such individuals that if Peter Obi comes back and is the most favoured candidate, the most supported candidate, and becomes the candidate, the PDP will make an impact in the 2027 general elections,” Moro added.
Obi, who was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019 before defecting to the Labour Party in 2022, emerged as one of the leading contenders in the 2023 presidential race, where he finished third.
His potential return to the PDP has become a topic of increasing speculation as the opposition party strategises for 2027.
