Hamzat emerges Lagos APC governorship candidate, unveils “My Lagos Dream” agenda
Obafemi Hamzat has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election after securing a landslide victory in the party’s primary election.
The primary election, held on Thursday at the APC secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja, was declared peaceful and transparent by Jon Temlong, who announced the official results.
According to Temlong, Hamzat polled 657,917 votes out of 657,974 votes cast, while his only challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, received one vote. Another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, had earlier withdrawn from the contest before voting commenced.
Declaring the result, Temlong said: “I, Gen. Jon Temlong (rtd), hereby affirm that Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, having satisfied the guidelines set out in the party’s constitution, is returned as the winner of the governorship primary and the APC candidate for the 2027 election.”
Among top party leaders and dignitaries present during the declaration were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former deputy governor Femi Pedro, and members of the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), including Ganiyu Solomon.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, members of the GAC, and APC leaders across the state for their support and confidence in his leadership.
“I want to thank Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for what you have done for this state and the party,” Hamzat said. “With humility, I accept the candidacy of the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.”

The deputy governor also unveiled his development blueprint titled “My Lagos Dream,” outlining his vision for the future of Lagos State. According to him, the agenda is focused on job creation, infrastructure expansion, education, healthcare delivery, and improved security.
Hamzat said Lagos must continue to maintain its status as Africa’s leading commercial hub through strategic investments and people-oriented governance.
He identified four priority areas his administration would focus on if elected governor in 2027.
“First, service delivery: freeing up more money for services and maintaining the biggest infrastructure investment programme in West Africa,” he said.
“Second, job creation: policies to fast-track jobs for our youths and support for entrepreneurs and industrialisation.
“Third, knowledge and skills; and fourth, health and well-being to ensure access to healthcare, water and security.”
Hamzat stressed that governance must positively impact ordinary residents across all parts of the state, regardless of social or economic background.
“I will work for all Lagosians — the fisherman in Badagry and Epe, the trader in Oyingbo, Mile 12 and Balogun,” he stated.
“The hard-working driver, the mechanic, the hawker and young people trying to survive will not be forgotten.
“I will also spare a thought for the businessman who wants his investments to yield high returns in a safe and secure Lagos.”
The APC candidate pledged to continue the developmental policies initiated by President Tinubu and successive APC-led administrations in Lagos State.
“With your endorsement, I would like to continue the transformative work initiated by our leader and father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
Hamzat further highlighted his years of experience in both the private and public sectors, saying they had adequately prepared him for the responsibility of leading Lagos State.
He pointed to major infrastructure projects executed during his years in government, including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the Lagos Blue and Red Rail Lines, the Adiyan Waterworks project, and several roads and bridges across the state.
“These are the arteries that pump the lifeblood of our economy. They require meticulous planning and a knowledgeable and experienced leader with a firm hand,” he said.
Describing the 2027 elections as critical to the future of both Lagos and Nigeria, Hamzat expressed confidence that the state would continue on the path of growth and stability with the support of party members and residents.
“With your support and the blessing of Almighty God, I know that we can rise to the challenge and keep Lagos working,” he said.
