Outrage as man allegedly forced into car trunk by Police in Imo

A young man allegedly forced into the trunk of a vehicle by police officers attached to the Ihiagwa Divisional Headquarters in Imo State has been identified as Princewill Chimaobi, sparking public outrage and calls for an official investigation into the incident.

According to an account shared by an individual who said they spoke with Chimaobi while he was in police custody, the young man narrated that he had left his home to charge his mobile phone when police officers reportedly raided the area and arrested him alongside several others.

Chimaobi alleged that he questioned the officers about the reason for his arrest and resisted being taken away because he believed he had committed no offence.

He further claimed that the officers subsequently dragged him and forced him into the trunk of a tinted Toyota Camry before taking him into custody.

Speaking while reportedly in the presence of the officers, Chimaobi maintained that no incriminating items were found on him during the arrest.

He also stated that he had never been arrested before, describing the incident as his first encounter with the police.

According to the source, the police also acknowledged that nothing incriminating was recovered from Chimaobi during the arrest.The incident has triggered calls on the Nigeria Police Force to provide an official explanation and investigate the officers’ conduct, particularly the allegation that a suspect was transported inside the trunk of a vehicle.

Human rights advocates and concerned citizens have also demanded accountability, arguing that if the allegations are confirmed, the treatment would amount to a violation of the individual’s rights and established policing procedures.
