Troops arrest suspect with alleged explosives at Ikorodu event in Lagos

Troops of Operation MESA have arrested a suspect found in possession of suspected explosives in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, following intelligence reports of a potential security threat during a public gathering.

The arrest, which took place around 7:45 p.m. on March 21, was disclosed by security sources and later shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama via social media on Sunday.

According to the sources, the suspect was reportedly seen moving around the Agric area of Ikorodu Local Government Area with objects believed to be hand grenades during an event, prompting immediate action from security operatives.

Troops of Operation MESA were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they secured the environment and apprehended the individual without any resistance or incident.

“On arrival, troops secured the area and arrested the suspect who was found in possession of items suspected to be 36 hand grenades,” a security source disclosed.

The suspect, said to be a native of Osun State but residing in Ikorodu, is currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact nature of the recovered items, pending further verification by military experts.

Following the arrest, event organisers and participants were briefed on the situation and advised to remain calm while maintaining vigilance. Security officials also urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities.

The suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to the military for preliminary investigation, as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent potential threats and ensure public safety in Lagos.
