Mourinho praises Lamine Yamal but rules out Real Madrid move
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has praised Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal as a highly talented player but dismissed speculation that the Spanish giants could attempt to sign the teenage star.
Speaking during an interview with Spanish television programme El Chiringuito, Mourinho was asked about the possibility of Real Madrid making a move for the Barcelona youngster.
The Portuguese manager acknowledged Yamal’s quality but made it clear that the player is not part of Real Madrid’s transfer plans.
“Will I sign Lamine Yamal? He’s a very good player, but no. We already have the best players and a top squad,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho’s comments are likely to end speculation surrounding a potential sensational transfer involving one of Barcelona’s most important young players.
Rather than focusing on potential additions, Mourinho expressed confidence in the quality already available within the Real Madrid squad.
The manager’s comments come as the club prepares for the new domestic campaign, with expectations high for a strong challenge in both La Liga and European competition.
Despite the fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Mourinho also offered praise for Barcelona’s recent progress, particularly their defensive organisation and attacking structure under manager Hansi Flick.
He suggested that having a strong Barcelona side is beneficial to the competitiveness of Spanish football and helps raise the standard of competition in La Liga.
Yamal has emerged as one of the most influential young players in world football and has become a central figure in Barcelona’s attack.
The teenager played an important role in Barcelona’s league campaign, contributing goals and assists while establishing himself as a regular first-team player despite his age.
His performances have attracted widespread attention from clubs and fans around Europe, but Mourinho’s latest comments indicate that Real Madrid have no intention of attempting to lure him away from their biggest domestic rivals.
For now, Yamal remains firmly part of Barcelona’s plans, while Mourinho insists that Real Madrid already possess enough quality to compete at the highest level.
