Ikeja Electric blames National grid shortfall for reduced power supply
Ikeja Electric Plc has attributed the reduction in electricity supply hours across its distribution network to a shortfall in power allocated to it from the national grid.
The electricity distribution company disclosed this in a public notice dated Monday, October 19, 2026, signed by its management.
The development is expected to affect customers across Ikeja Electric’s franchise area, which covers parts of Lagos State, as households and businesses contend with reduced access to electricity.
“We wish to inform customers across Ikeja Electric network that the reduced hours of electricity supply is due to a shortfall in the amount of power currently allocated to our network from the national grid,” the company stated.
Ikeja Electric acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the reduced supply and appealed to customers for patience and understanding.

The announcement highlights the continuing challenges associated with electricity generation and allocation in Nigeria’s power sector, where insufficient available generation can affect the volume of electricity distributed to consumers.
When the quantity of electricity supplied to distribution companies falls below demand, operators may have to adjust supply across their networks, potentially affecting households, commercial establishments and industrial users.
For businesses that depend on public electricity, reduced supply can increase operating costs as they turn to generators and other alternative power sources. Households may also face additional expenses to maintain essential appliances and daily activities.
Ikeja Electric did not provide details in the notice on the expected duration of the supply shortfall or when normal electricity supply would be restored.
Customers will therefore be looking to the company for further updates as the situation develops.
