Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), Lagos, has intensified preparations for the commencement of regional flight operations following the resolution of its long-standing concession dispute with the Federal Government.

The company’s Chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin, inspected facilities at the terminal on Thursday to assess progress on infrastructure and operational arrangements ahead of the planned commencement of regional services.

The inspection covered key areas undergoing preparatory work, including the regional arrivals area, apron extension and a dedicated access gate for staff and concessionaires.

Babalakin, who was briefed by the Acting Chief Operating Officer, Remi Jibodu, commended the team for the progress recorded and urged it to sustain the pace of work to meet the stipulated timeline.

He also emphasised the need for close coordination with relevant government agencies and aviation regulators, particularly the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), to ensure that all necessary inspections, assessments and approvals are completed before operations begin.

The development follows a settlement agreement signed by Bi-Courtney and the Federal Government, which resolved the prolonged dispute surrounding the MMA2 concession and paved the way for the terminal to handle regional flights.

BASL’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Idunnu Oyebolu, said the company was pursuing preparations for regional operations alongside plans to accommodate increased passenger traffic during the year-end travel season.

She said the operator was working to ensure that its facilities, personnel and processes were adequately prepared to provide safe, efficient and seamless passenger services.

Jibodu also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing outstanding infrastructure works and securing the necessary regulatory approvals within the stipulated timeline.

The planned expansion is expected to broaden travel options for passengers, improve regional air connectivity and strengthen MMA2’s contribution to Nigeria’s aviation industry.

However, the commencement date, participating airlines and specific regional routes have not yet been officially announced.
