Drama as pregnant woman delivers baby boy inside Lagos Danfo bus [video]
Passengers aboard a commercial bus popularly known as Danfo were left surprised after a pregnant woman went into labour and delivered a baby boy during a journey in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed that the woman was travelling across the state when she suddenly went into labour inside the moving vehicle.
According to the agency, fellow passengers and other people at the scene quickly rallied around the expectant mother, assisting her through the delivery while some offered prayers for the safe arrival of the baby.
The woman successfully delivered a baby boy, with commuters and medical responders subsequently providing assistance to ensure the safety of both mother and child.
Footage of the incident, which has circulated on social media, captured moments surrounding the unexpected delivery, attracting reactions from viewers.
Some witnesses reportedly suggested that the newborn should be named Abiona, a Yoruba name traditionally associated with a child born during a journey or on the road.
The incident comes shortly after a similar occurrence at Onipanu Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road, where another pregnant woman delivered a baby boy before being taken to a medical facility.
In an account of the earlier incident, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders arrived promptly after receiving information that a pregnant woman had gone into labour while waiting for transportation.
“In a swift response, LASEMA arrived at the scene to assist a pregnant woman who went into sudden labour while waiting for transport.
“The woman delivered a healthy baby boy. Both mother and child were stabilised by LASEMA paramedics before being transported to a nearby healthcare facility for post-natal care,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
The latest incident has once again highlighted the importance of prompt emergency response and public assistance in situations involving unexpected childbirth in public places.
