New Aare Onakakanfo says he’ll defer to these two Yoruba leaders
The new Aare Onakakanfo and leader of the O’Odua People’s Congress Gani Adams has said the new title will temper his radicalism, among other things when he takes office.
He said it in Lagos at a media chat Tuesday when he equally promised to use the new position to make friends, resolve issues and fight for unity of Yoruba and the entire Nigeria.
Adams, 47, made the pledge while confirming receipt of a letter from the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, conferring him with the chieftaincy title.
“I will, as soon as possible, meet with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I will meet Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as well as Fasehun and others,” Adams said while confirming his acceptance of the title Alaafin Oyo Lamidi Adeyemi conferred on him last week.
Many had speculated the title was going to be handed to Obasnjo or Tinubu in that order.
“I am ready to fight for justice for Yoruba people and for Nigerians,” Adams said.
The Alaafin said he found Adams worthy of the title because he was young and courageous to face any aggression.
He also said that his charisma, determination, loyalty, focus and interest in the Yoruba race played a role in his choice for the title.
Mr. Adams noted that one could be chosen for the title only as a philanthropist and a freedom fighter.
The title is the 57th Adams has in under his belt.
