Herdsmen kill people in their hundreds go unpunish – Catholic Bishop

The President of Catholic Bishops in Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama has said that herdsmen has killed people in their hundreds without any single arrest and no punishment meted out to them.

Kaigama stated this yesterday in Jos the Plateau State capital when he granted interview to newsmen on the state of the Nation at the close of a Thanksgiving Service held at St Monica’s Parish to mark the beginning of the 2018 legal year.

The Bishops President said there was rising cases of killings as life is no longer valued in Nigeria.

“The rate of crime is on the increase at every level, local, state and federal levels.

“We are crying out that something has to be done; If something is being done it is not very effective.

“There is need to organise better strategies; for God’s sake we have different security agencies, the Military, the Police, the State Security Services and the Civil Defence.

“If they synergize crime can be fought to a standstill in Nigeria: the rate of criminal activities is quite disturbing.

“The government don’t seem concerned about the sanctity and dignity of life and people just take laws into their hands and kill others at will and nobody is saying anything,” he said.

The cleric said that he is particularly worried because even the kidnapping cases, nothing seems to happen after the victim is released or killed.

Kaigama stated that the leaders should occupying leadership positions to protect the people.

“They are now in power people are killed in hundreds and they seem helpless and drawing up excuses here and there but we did not elect our leaders to give us excuses.

“We elected them to perform, give us food, give infrastructure, give us security and make Nigerians happy and be bonded in love and unity,” he added
