NDLEA seeks collaboration in fight against drug trafficking

The Acting Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs Roli George, has called for collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against drug trafficking in the country.

George made the call in Kano on Tuesday while inspecting the seizures made by the agency in the area.

She said that the agency would continue to partner with other security agencies to ensure success in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

“All security agencies should work together in order to achieve the desired results,” she said.

George restated the commitment of the agency to fight drug barons in order to check the menace.

She commended the Kano State Government for establishing a joint task force on fake, expired and counterfeit drugs and other support given to the agency.

Earlier, the agency’s Commander in the state, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that from January to date, the command arrested 676 suspected drug traffickers.

Umar said that the command confiscated a total of 12,365.8 kilogrammes of hard drugs from the suspects in the period under review.

Similarly, he said the agency secured 143 convictions in the Federal High Court, Kano while 214 cases were still pending.

In his remarks, the state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr Kabir Getso, said a task force that raided illegal warehouses had resulted led to the seizure of fake, expired and counterfeit drugs worth N4 billion from 2012 to date.

“Within the 100 days of this administration, the state government destroyed fake and expired drugs worth more than N80 million,” he said.
