Robbers break into Methodist Church

A gang of robbers have broken into the Good Shepherd Methodist Church of Ghana at Agona Kwesi Twikrom (TKT), in the Agona East District and made away a number of musical instruments. The items include a power mixture, two big speakers, and two cordless microphones among other things worth hundreds of Ghana Cedis after they managed to break into the fortified wooden entrance.

National Daily learnt from the Ghana News Agency  via a telephone interview, that  other  items such as drums, double gon-gon and other items being used for church services were intact, adding that they attempted to break into drawers with the view that money had been kept in them but never found a pesewa. They said the Reverend Minister, leaders and the entire congregation of the church were shocked because since the Church building was commissioned more than a decade ago, no thief had dared break into it.

An Elder of the church also said the stolen items had disrupted the Sunday service and will also affect weekly activities but they were not perturbed about the situation as followers of Jesus Christ. He said the leadership and the congregation were poised to raise funds to purchase the stolen items to ensure that church activities could be brought to normalcy.

He said the most unfortunate situation was that, the church was in the process of engaging more watchmen to ensure that such nefarious acts would not occur. Elder Adu said the report has been made to the Mankrong-Junction Police and appealed to the Agona Swedru Patrol Teams to extend their duties beyond Agona Kwanyako and other surrounding towns to curtail such occurrences. Elder Adu also made a passionate appeal to the Assemblyman for Fawomanye Electoral Area, Mr Albert Quainoo and Chiefs to revive of neighbourhood watchdog committees which had become dormant to supplement the efforts of the police Patrol teams.

In another development, thieves broke into the Christ Apostolic Church NO 2 (CAC) two weeks ago and made away with valuable items. The Agona Swedru District Police Command sources confirmed the theft to the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Agona Swedru.
