Ramos fined 20,000 Euros for deliberate booking in win over Ajax
The yellow card that Sergio Ramos admitted he earned on purpose during the game against Ajax on Wednesday night could see him receive a similar fine to the one he was hit with during the 2010/11 Champions League against the same opposition.
On that occasion, UEFA sanctioned Real Madrid with a 100,000 euro fine and coach Jose Mourinho was hit in the pocket to the tune of 30,000 euros for engineering a chain of messages which resulted in Jerzy Dudek telling Iker Casillas to inform Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso that they should pick up a booking.
Those cards allowed them to clear their disciplinary records for the next stage of the competition.
The four players involved didn’t receive the severity of punishment that their coach did but were fined, with Ramos and Alonso hit with 20,000 euro fines, Casillas handed a 10,000 euro fine and Dudek receiving a 5,000 euro punishment.
Mourinho, who was given a one-match ban, and the booked duo served their suspensions in the final group stage game against Auxerre at the Santiago Bernabeu and were available for selection in the last 16 tie against Lyon.
