Gombi blast: Senator donates drugs to hospitals
A National Assembly member from Adamawa, Sen. Abdulazeez Nyako, on Sunday donated drugs to hospitals in Yola where victims of Friday’s explosion in Gombi are being treated.
esenting the drugs to the management of Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, both in Yola, Nyako, who represents Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the Senate, condemned the blast which claimed many lives.
He said that he had begun the compilation of property destroyed by the blast and was making effort to ensure that victims received assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and donor-organisations.
Receiving the drugs, which included antibiotics and bandages, at the Specialist Hospital, the Director Nursing Services, Mr Bello Maidugu, commended the senator for the gesture.
Maidugu assured that the items would be utilised in the treatment of the blast victims.
Similarly, the Director of Administration of the Federal Medical Centre, Alhaji Aliyu Nayejo, while receiving the items expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for caring for the insurgency victims.
He said that the drugs would supplement those provided by the federal and state governments.
National Daily reports that Nyako also visited Koh and other communities in Girei Local Government Area of the state where communal clashes occurred on Jan. 24.
He donated food items, mats and blankets to victims of the disturbances in the area and sued for peace.
Receiving the senator, the Head of Koh community, Mr Victor Nashepdon, thanked him for the gesture, and called for urgent support from the state government to farmers affected by the crisis.
Nashepdon claimed that no fewer than 72 farmers lost their lives in the clashes.
