Following the recent admission by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the House of Representatives has proposed the establishment of computer-based testing (CBT) centers in all 774 local government areas across Nigeria.

The resolution was reached during a plenary session on Thursday, with lawmakers emphasizing that this measure would help prevent similar issues in future UTME administrations.

“In making it easy for candidates seeking admission into universities or other tertiary institutions through UTME, the ICT centres must be made available in all the 774 local government councils across the country.”

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Mohammed Dandutse, addressed the House, highlighting the concerning lack of CBT centers nationwide.

He shared his experience from Katsina South senatorial district, where only two out of eleven local government councils have functional ICT centers for UTME.

“Since the examination is computer-based, centres for it need to be made available across the 774 local government councils in the country,” Senator Dandutse stated.

He further assured the House that the Senate Committee, in collaboration with their counterparts in the House of Representatives, would work towards facilitating budgetary provisions for the establishment of these CBT centers in the 2026 fiscal year.

This initiative aims to make the UTME process more accessible and reduce logistical challenges that may contribute to examination errors.
