Adamawa State enforces birth certificate requirement
The Adamawa State government has mandated that children present their birth certificates before enrolling in primary school. This policy aims to increase birth registration rates in the state.
The Adamawa State government has implemented a new policy requiring children to present their birth certificates before being enrolled in primary school.
The government aims to encourage the registration of all children born in the state through this measure.
During a nationwide birth registration advocacy and social mobilization drive organized by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in partnership with the National Population Commission (NPC), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and UNICEF, the Education Secretary of Yola South LGA, Abba Bawuro, announced the new requirement.
He stated that a meeting with 82 head teachers had agreed on the birth certificate mandate for enrollment in nursery and primary schools.
The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Onilu, emphasized the importance of birth registration for effective government planning. He highlighted that data is crucial for addressing the welfare of citizens and providing social services.

Representatives from NIMC and NPC, Fatima Aliyu and Adamu Sulaiman Abbo, respectively, also encouraged parents to register their children, highlighting the free nature of the service.
The director of NOA in Adamawa State, Johnah Agye, reminded parents of the ongoing house-to-house birth registration certificate campaign, which began in August and will continue until November.
He urged parents to seize this opportunity to register their children.
