Army begin driving training to transport war equipment, troops

The Nigerian Army has commenced training of personnel on driving skills aimed at transporting war equipment and troops during the crisis.

Inaugurating the Drivers Basic Course 1/2023 at the 73 Brigade Supply and Transport Drivers Training Wing, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, recently, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Rukuba Barracks, Maj-Gen. Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, said the drivers course was initiated to build the capacity of personnel in the transportation of troops and equipment as will be required during operations.

Gen. Ibrahim said army drivers make a lot of mistakes during the crisis which has led to lost of lives of troops.

“The need for constant training and retraining of troops for optimum discharge of their duties is requisite in the army”,  the Army boss who was represented by the Chief Of Staff Headquarters 3 Division, Brigadier General David Kurmi said.

Speaking earlier however, the Commander 73 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General NM Sabo revealed that the training of the drivers  was organised to enlighten and update the knowledge of the trainees on basic driving, ethics of driving, practical driving in all weather conditions  and terrains.

Gen Sabo explained that having observed the high rate of accidents due to drivers’ carelessness and recklessness, the need for the course to train soldiers became necessary.  The students he noted were drawn from different units and formations.

He expressed optimism that at the end of the course ,the participants  will be equipped with the requisite knowledge needed on the field.
