ASUU embarks on fresh protest in Ibadan, says FG Lawless, Merciless
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) branch, on Monday embarked on protest, agitating the “merciless treatment” of university lecturers by the Federal Government.
The lecturers sustained their protest within the campus with placards and solidarity song to register their displeasure. The lecturers would hold a congress immediately after the rally.
ASUU Chairman, UI Chapter, Prof Ayoola Akinwole, speaking during the rally, told the Federal Government to fulfil the agreement reached with the unions.
Akinwole declared: “The present government is one of the most lawless government Nigeria has ever seen. The government that doesn’t obey its own rule, the government that doesn’t obey its own court, a government that is merciless in meting out draconian policies on the working class. Our people say no to all these treatments.”
a former National Treasurer of ASUU, Prof Ademola Aremu, berated the federal government over unfair treatment of lecturers.
The ASUU at University of Abuja, University of Lagos, beside others, have held similar protest in their campuses, rejecting the half salary paid to university lecturers in October by the federal government after the strike.
