Bandits shoot lawyer to death in Zamfara for resisting kidnap
Bandits, invading the residence of a lawyer, shot the lawyer to death as he attempted to resist being kidnapped in Gusau, the Zamfara State.
The bandits killed the legal practitioner, Benedict Azza, when he attempted to escape as they struck to avoid being kidnapped at his residence at Saminaka area, bye-pass in Gusau.
The lawyer was said to have ran to his car and while driving off into the main road, however, the bandits chased him, shooting at him three times, as he bled to death.
Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Zamfara State, Junaidu Abubakar, in a statement on Friday, indicated that the corpse of the deceased was abandoned on the roadside along the bye-pass near FRSC office at the time of the killing.
Junaidu Abubakar, in the statement on Friday, narrated: “Yesterday at about 2230hrs, while I was in my house, I received three different phone calls from our colleagues informing me that B. T. Azza Esq. was shot dead by unknown gunmen and his body was lying on the roadside along Bye-pass near FRSC office, Gusau.
“BT Azza was shot dead by 2 unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers who came on a motorcycle.
“The information has it that the gunmen wanted to kidnap him at his house situated at Saminaka Area, Behind Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Headquarters, Byepass, Gusau but he was able to escape, drove his vehicle and ran to the roadside. The gunmen pursued him and shot him dead.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, was gathered to have acknowledged the killing.
