Benue govt. Destroys illegal grave yard in makurdi

The Benue state government has destroyed an illegal grave yard discovered along Tiny Tort nursery and primary school, Otukpo road,opposite St. Thomas Aquinas major seminary makurdi, the Benue state capital.
Commissioner for Water and Environment, Hon. Nicholas Wende who led a team of journalists to the scene to bulldoze the area said it became imperative to do so for hygienic and healthy living of the inhabitants.
Wende described the burial ground as illegal saying government would make sure that the site is destroyed even with the resistance of the community so as to give the state a better look.
Some of the Villagers who spoke to National Daily and would not want their names in print said the entire community were using the area to bury their dead ones and would resist any attempt to submit the destruction of the place to government.
One of the villagers said the destruction will exposed some ladies who have turn the area as place where they bury their unborn children. “On several occasion ladies have driven to that particular scene and throw away some sort of objects that turn the next moment the to be a day old child or sometime above the age”. He said.
He commended the commissioner for his fearless courage and urged him to ensure that the area is totally destroy so as to put a stop on the continues burial of innocent children in the place.
