NSCDC arrests 15 suspects for various crimes in Benue
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue Command, has successfully arrested 15 suspects during the recent holiday season, attributing the reduced crime rate to effective collaboration among security agencies and support from the state governor.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue Command, announced the arrest of 15 suspects for various crimes during the recent yuletide period.
Mr. Michael Ejelikwu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the command, made the disclosure in an interview with the press in Makurdi on Wednesday.
He revealed that the arrests took place across various locations within the state.
Ejelikwu noted a significant reduction in the number of arrests this year compared to previous years, attributing this improvement to the strengthened collaboration among security agencies in the state.
He also credited the support from the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, for the decline in criminal activities.
“In previous years, our cells were filled with suspects following the Christmas and New Year celebrations, but this year is different due to the synergy between the security agencies,” he stated.
“What evades us will not evade the police, and what evades the police will not evade the army. Criminals have no place to hide in Benue anymore.”
While the NSCDC’s primary mandate is the protection of critical national assets, Ejelikwu emphasized that the agency could not ignore crimes such as kidnapping. He lauded the collaboration between security forces as a key factor in curbing criminal activities in the state.

The PRO also acknowledged the contributions of Governor Hyacinth Alia, who recently provided Hilux vehicles and motorcycles to the security agencies to enhance their operations. “Our governor is a security-conscious leader who prioritizes the peace of the state,” Ejelikwu added.
The state’s NSCDC’s Commandant, Mrs. Larai Bitrus, is committed to ridding the state of vandals and other criminal elements.
Ejelikwu shared that the command is working closely with scrap dealers to prevent them from creating markets for vandals, further driving criminals out of the region.
He urged the public to continue supporting the security efforts by reporting any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
“Security is not a one-man business,” he stressed.
