The latest report from the NOI Polls and the Centre for Democracy and Development has showed the north west and northeast remain the staunchest supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC government. Opposition strongholds in the south-south and southeast give him a thumb-down in his second year’s performance rating.
The findings confirm the political alliance between the president, his party, and the south remains frosty in spite of all the effort the administration is taking to worm ots way into the region.
The report released on Monday was tagged  “Buharimeter Citizens’ Scorecard on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB), and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the three broad campaign promises (Corruption, Economy and Security) in the first two (2) years in office.”
According to the survey of 4090 citizen across 111 local government areas between April 3 and 22, 57 per cent of Nigerians say Buhari has done well in office.
“While the North-West (85 per cent) and North-East (66 per cent) regions constitute the majority of those who approve of his job performance, respondents from the South-East (72 per cent) and South-South (60 per cent) regions make up those who do not approve his performance,” the report stated in part.
“On the fight against corruption, 52 per cent of Nigerians expressed satisfaction with the performance of the government regarding the fight against corruption, while 47 per cent expressed dissatisfaction.”
About 72 percent of the respondents from the South-East, and 60 percent from the South-South do not approve his performance.
Based on the three-pronged campaign promise of the president, the survey reveals that  52 per cent of Nigerians expressed satisfaction with the performance of the government on anti-corruption.
It states further that almost 4 in 10 Nigerians (39 per cent) rate the current government’s performance on the economy as Poor, particularly amongst South-East (82 per cent) and South-South (59 per cent.
“Nigerians expressed some level of satisfaction with the “Security reform” with 54 per cent effectiveness; perhaps due to the relative success achieved in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency.” it states.
The half-term report has implication for Buhari’s second term which loyalists appear to be forcing on the president that has been out to the U.K. on four occasions for medical reasons.
But Adesina Femi, Aso Rock media handler, told newsmen recently that a two-year assessment is not enough to judge any incumbent of four-year term.
