Charles III takes oath, declares the late Queen’s funeral a public holiday

The late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will be declared a public holiday by King Charles III. Copies of two proclamations, the first one is declaring Her Majesty’s state funeral to be a holiday in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The second one is declaring Her Majesty’s state funeral to be a bank holiday in Scotland.

According to BBC’s report, during an elaborate ceremony at St James’ Palace in London on Saturday, Charles III swore an oath and was declared king. The Accession Council formally notified the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles III was crowned king shortly after that. Before the paperwork was signed, almost 200 persons assembled in the chamber all exclaimed, “God save the King.”

However, Flags that were lowered in mourning for the late Queen will be flown at half-mast for a short period, according to the BBC. In his inaugural address to the country yesterday, the King swore to emulate his mother’s life of devotion. The Queen, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle.

In a ceremony followed by gun salutes and the reading of proclamations in London and across the United Kingdom, King Charles III was proclaimed as Britain’s new ruler. The declaration was read out in the UK’s other major cities, including Edinburgh in Scotland, Belfast in Northern Ireland, and Cardiff in Wales, among others.
