Dembele for Pogba: Barca means business, Arsenal seeks upgrade
Barcelona are reportedly ready to do some pretty incredible transfer business between now and the end of the summer.
In a decision that would have major ramifications in the Premier League, Barcelona would be prepared to sell Ousmane Dembele to Arsenal in order to fund a move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, according to RAC1, as translated by the Metro.
This could be huge in terms of how it affects this season’s title race or race for the top four in England, with Dembele a signing who’d seriously strengthen Arsenal if he could get back to his best after a difficult and injury-hit time at the Nou Camp.
Pogba’s exit, meanwhile, might make sense in a way after his struggles to adapt under Jose Mourinho, though many fans would no doubt be distraught to see United lose a potentially world class player so late in the summer.
The Pogba transfer stories are certainly hotting up as Tuttosport recently claimed the France international held talks with Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal in LA. Don Balon have added that the Red Devils would be prepared to sanction Pogba’s sale, so there may be some late movement here in the final days of the transfer window.
Ousmane Dembele transfer in sight for Arsenal?
Meanwhile, Don Balon have also linked Arsenal with Dembele recently as he mulls over his future after his difficulties since moving to La Liga last summer. The youngster previously looked one of the best young players in the world at Borussia Dortmund, but doesn’t seem an ideal fit for how Barcelona play, and could have cause to fear for his place after the Catalan giants signed Malcom this summer.
Arsenal could do with an upgrade on the likes of Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi on the left-hand side of their attack, but Don Balon have previously reported he’d likely cost around £89m, which looks too expensive for the famously frugal Gunners. Still, if Barcelona are desperate to land Pogba and ready to let Dembele go to help it happen as RAC1 supposedly claim, perhaps there’ll be some room for negotiation on that heavy price tag.
