Dr. Adetola Salau expands STEAM Education revolution Across Nigerian States
In a determined push to transform education in Nigeria, Dr. Adetola Salau is leading groundbreaking initiatives that are reshaping how young Nigerians are prepared for the future.
From her tenure as Senior Special Assistant on Education to the Governor of Lagos State to her current role as Special Adviser to the Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Salau’s mission remains clear: to create an education system driven by innovation, technology, and inclusion.
While serving in Lagos, Dr. Salau spearheaded the STEAM UP Lagos project, aimed at integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) into primary and secondary education.
The initiative sought to: Shift education from rote learning to practical, hands-on problem-solving. Equip students with life skills for economic productivity. Cultivate a generation of techpreneurs and innovators, aligning with Lagos’ “T.H.E.M.E.S” development agenda.

Key Achievements in Lagos include: Teacher Development; 600 teachers trained and 90 engaged through SEA HUB training (in collaboration with GIZ); 50 teachers received specialized Drone and AI training through partnerships with the U.S. Consulate.
At the 2nd National SEA HUB Exhibition, Lagos secured first and second places, along with the “Most Creative Business Plan” award.
Building on her success in Lagos, Dr. Salau has now launched STEAM UP Kwara as Special Adviser to the Governor.
The vision is to transform Kwara State’s education system into a beacon of innovation, inclusivity, and excellence — while directly addressing challenges in STEM education, digital literacy, gender equity, and community engagement.
The initiative aims to impact over 50,000 students and 2,000 educators, fully aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4 and 5).
Dr. Salau’s dual-state initiatives signify a growing momentum to prepare Nigeria’s youth not just to participate, but to lead in the global economy.
“We must move beyond mere aspirations,” Dr. Salau said. “Education must become a tool for empowerment, innovation, and national competitiveness. We owe it to the next generation to build a system that positions Nigeria for greatness.”
With the STEAM UP projects flourishing across Lagos and Kwara, Dr. Adetola Salau is charting a new course for educational excellence across Nigeria — one student, one school, one state at a time.
