The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly refuted recent claims made by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, describing them as completely false and malicious.
The EFCC expressed outrage over Ibe’s assertions, which he made during his appearance on Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television, aired Thursday, May 22, 2025.
During the broadcast, Ibe made sweeping allegations involving opposition politics, defections, and purported political interference by top government officials.
Most notably, Ibe alleged that the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the Solicitor General of the Federation, held a clandestine meeting with an unnamed state governor 48 hours before the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The EFCC has condemned these claims as entirely fictitious and made in bad faith.
“The allegation is not only unfounded but reeks of a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the integrity of the Commission and its leadership,” the EFCC stated.
Reiterating his commitment to neutrality, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede has consistently maintained his apolitical stance, emphasizing that the Commission remains strictly professional and resistant to any partisan influence.
“The public is hereby urged to disregard Mr. Ibe’s claims, as there is no truth whatsoever to the alleged secret meeting. It exists solely in the imagination of the accuser,” the EFCC noted.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to its core mandate of fighting financial crimes without fear or favour and warned against attempts to politicize its operations.
