Eight nations secure AFCON 2025 tickets as qualifiers heat up
Eight teams have now qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, with Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Cameroon, Algeria, Burkina Faso, and host nation Morocco securing their places.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the qualifiers on Tuesday through a series of updates on their X (formerly Twitter) account.
Congo, Senegal, Egypt, and Angola are the latest additions to the growing list after winning their crucial qualifying matches.
Congo triumphed 2-0 against Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, while Angola edged past Niger Republic with a narrow 1-0 victory. Egypt and Senegal both secured 1-0 wins, defeating Mauritania and Malawi, respectively.

While these teams celebrate, other nations continue to battle for a spot in the tournament. Rwanda secured their first win in Group D, defeating Benin Republic 2-1 after coming from behind.
This victory leaves Rwanda in third place with five points, trailing Benin’s six points, while Nigeria’s Super Eagles sit at the top with seven points, despite their match against Libya being postponed.
Football analysts noted that the competition is intensifying as teams look to secure their spots. “The AFCON qualifiers are always unpredictable, but we’re seeing strong performances from the top teams. Nigeria’s lead in their group, even with a delayed match, shows their consistent strength,” commented sports pundit Christopher Katongo.
With more games to come, the final list of nations heading to Morocco in 2025 is yet to be fully determined, but the intensity is expected to rise as the tournament draws closer.
