Ex-Police commissioner Owoseni withdraws from Oyo Accord governorship primary over alleged irregularities
Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has withdrawn from the Oyo State governorship primary election of the Accord Party, citing alleged manipulation of the process and rising tensions within the party.
Owoseni, a retired police commissioner and governorship aspirant, announced his withdrawal ahead of the party’s primary scheduled to produce its candidate for the upcoming election cycle.
In reports from party sources, he allegedly raised concerns over the credibility of the internal election process, claiming that the exercise had been compromised and lacked transparency.
He also expressed concern about increasing tension and reported incidents of violence among stakeholders during the buildup to the primary election.
His withdrawal reduces the number of contestants in the Accord Party’s governorship race in Oyo State and is expected to reshape the dynamics of the party’s internal contest.
As of the time of filing this report, the Accord Party has not issued an official response to the allegations or the withdrawal.
Political analysts note that disputes and accusations of irregularities are common in party primaries across Nigeria, often highlighting broader concerns about internal democracy and candidate selection processes.
Owoseni, who served as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State before retirement, has remained active in public affairs and security-related commentary since leaving the Nigeria Police Force.
